Alt Balaji is one of the first entrants in the Digital content streaming market. Owned by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, Alt Balaji is among the biggest and best OTT platform in India.

Ever since the rise of internet users in India, the hunger for online entertainment grew as well. Balaji Telefilms is already a very big name in the Television entertainment industry, which gave them an upper hand in their online venture.

In just 3 years, Alt Balaji has created many original web series that have gained huge popularity among the audiences. In this post, I’ll be naming my picks for the best Alt Balaji Originals in Hindi.

So let’s get started.

An infographic poster describing the list of best Alt Balaji Web Series
Alt Balaji Web Series List

1. Code M

  • Logline: A military lawyer is asked to investigate what seems to be just an open and shut case, but is it really that simple?
  • Year: 2020
  • Genre: Mystery, Thriller
  • Cast:  Jennifer Winget, Tanuj Virwani, Kundan Roy

Jennifer Winget is not an unknown name to the Indian audiences. She has been a famous face in Indian Television Dramas for years. This is her debut web series and that too a big one.

The story revolves around a military lawyer, Major Monika Mehra, who is ordered to investigate a case involving the encounter between terrorists and army personals. But she soon discovers that somethings are being purposely hidden and there’s some conspiracy going around.

The show is a treat to watch. Jennifer is a pure badass in this Alt Balaji web series. The story keeps you hooked at all times and the climax is really satisfying.

2. The Verdict – State vs Nanavati

  • Logline: Indian Naval commander Nanavati returns home to find about his wife’s affair. Jealousy leads to a murder that sparks a nationwide drama.
  • Year: 2019
  • Genre: Thriller, Suspense, Courtroom Drama
  • Cast: Manav Kaul, Sumeet Vyas, Elli AvrRam

Have you watched the Bollywood movie ‘Rustom’ by Akshay Kumar? If yes, then you know what the story is. But trust me, you can’t miss this one just because of that. And for those who haven’t watched the movie, let me give you a brief synopsis of this new web series.

Set in the period of 1950s Bombay, this is a real story based on the life of Naval Commander Nanavati. On April 27, 1959, Officer Nanavati shots dead a Sindhi businessman with his gun for having an affair with his wife. Then he goes to the police to surrender but pleads ‘Not guilty’.

What follows is a serious courtroom drama filled with many emotions– from anger, sympathy to laughter. Despite being based on a murder case, you will find great humour in this show. Even if you are not into such type of shows, this show deserves your time.

3. Apharan

  • Logline: The temptation of easy money lures a cop to assist in a fake kidnapping. But things take an ugly turn and now he’s the major suspect in a murder case.
  • Year: 2018
  • Genre: Thriller, Crime
  • Cast: Arunoday Singh, Mahie Gill, Monica Chaudhary, Nidhi Singh

If you think that Alt Balaji only makes cheesy content in the adult web series genre, then you need to watch Apharan. It is one of my personal favourites on the list.

It is the story of Rudra Srivastava, a cop in Uttrakhand police who assist in kidnapping a young girl at her mother’s request. The plan’s simple, extort money in exchange for the girl. But a simple kidnapping story takes a sharp curve when Rudra becomes a major suspect in a murder case.

For me, this Alt Balaji web series is a complete package. It has some intense scenes, dialogues, and storylines, competing with the likes of Sacred Games and Mirzapur.

4. Gandii Baat

  • Logline: Erotic stories depicting dark fantasies from rural India.
  • Year: 2018
  • Genre: Erotic
  • Cast: Anveshi Jain, Flora Saini, Yamini Singh, Vikas Verma

Gandii Baat is the most famous creation of Alt Balaji. It was such a huge success for not only Alt Balaji but one of its main cast Anveshi Jain became the most searched actress on Google.

The adult web series focuses on portraying the sexual fantasies of rural India which was an unchartered territory until now. Rural India has always been shown as a simple orthodox society where sexual fantasies are no more than just a taboo.

Every episode’s a different story with a different cast but one thing remains the same- ‘The Desiness of Gandii Baat’. With three seasons streaming and a fourth one releasing in a month, there’s a lot to be watched.

5. Mission Over Mars

  • Logline: A story of four women scientists who play a major role in sending India’s first mission to Mars.
  • Year: 2019
  • Genre: Sci-fi, Slice of life
  • Cast: Mona Singh, Nidhi Singh, Neetu Sinha, Palomi Ghosh

Another Akshay Kumar’s movie ‘Mangalyaan’ shares the same plot with this web series. Both of them show Indian space agency’s efforts to send an Indian orbiter mission to Mars and the role of women scientists in the mission. But the difference is that the story in ‘M.O.M’ is more elaborate and connects better to the heart.

It’s the story of four women scientists who works at the Indian Space Agency ( like ISRO). They are a part of a very important space mission which is to send the first Indian made orbiter to Mars. Apart from their job, they are also responsible for managing their homes.

The Alt Balaji web series tries to highlight how women in India are capable of achieving anything in their lives and still stay connected to their roots and values. It’s a great show to promote women’s empowerment.

6. Broken but Beautiful

  • Logline: Two emotionally scared people heal each other’s heart as they ultimately fall in love.
  • Year: 2018
  • Genre: Drama, Romance
  • Cast: Pooja Bhamrrah, Jitin Gulati, Vikrant Massey

We all can agree that ‘Love’ is what gives people the most happiness. But sometimes it can cause immeasurable pain too. ‘Broken But Beautiful’ is a story of two people who got hurt due to ‘love’ and are stuck in their pasts.

Veer is a widower who hasn’t got over his wife’s death and can’t commit to any other relationship. Samira is a psycho-ex, she was dumped by her boyfriend 5 years ago but she still wants to make up with him. Both of them are broken and damaged emotionally. But after they cross paths with each other, things start to change.

All the actors have done phenomenal acting. If you have gone through a bad relationship, chances are you will be able to relate more with the main characters.

7. Who’s Your Daddy?

  • Logline: Tidda’s curiosity about knowing his mother’s identity reveals disturbing facts about his father Soggy.
  • Year: 2020
  • Genre: Adult comedy
  • Cast: Harsh Beniwal, Rahul Dev, Anveshi Jain

This one is a result of one of the many collaborations of Alt Balaji and Zee 5. An adult comedy featuring one of the most successful YouTubers, Harsh Beniwal and Gandii Baat star Anveshi Jain.

Tidda wants to know the truth about his birth mother from his father, Soggy. So Soggy decides to take Tidda in the flashback to 2002, at the time when Soggy used to sell ‘Porn DVDs’ and he and his father (Rahul Dev) were very popular among the ladies of posh Delhi till everything came crashing down. After listing to the story, Tidda gets more confused and becomes unsure of Soggy being his real father.

It’s just an adult comedy, so don’t go on expecting some high-level storyline. Just watch it if you want to have silly laughs on lewd jokes.

8. Bekaboo

  • Logline: A story of a woman who’s obsessed with a famous author and their quirky relationship.
  • Year: 2019
  • Genre: Erotic, Drama
  • Cast:  Rajeev Siddhartha, Priya Banerjee, Madhussneha Upadhyay, Siddhartha Roy

Based on a popular novel by the name ‘black suits’ written by Navoneel Chakraborty, ‘Bekaboo’ is a series like no other in Alt Balaji’s collection. It is a story that is not just erotic but also packs a proper story with great elements of thrill and suspense.

Kiyaan Roy is a successful author known for his erotic novels but deep down his fantasies lie on the darker side of eroticism. His secret desires turn into a nightmare when he realizes that he is being stalked by someone who is equally obsessed with the desires of pain and pleasure.

For me, the female lead of the story was the one that got me hooked into the series, her psychopathic tendencies and over the top obsession is just marvelous to watch.

9. Fixerr

Logline: A story of a guy who is famous for clearing any kind of a mess created by rich and privileged for a price.
Year: 2019
Genre: Drama
Cast: Jimmy Sharma, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Mahie Gill

A story that shows that the power of money can make people invisible and any crime can be hidden for the right amount. A story filled with lust, greed, deceit, and vengeance, thus making this Alt Balaji web series a perfect package of entertainment.

The story revolves around a corrupt Delhi cop, Jaiveer Maalik who is famous for clearing the mess of rich and wealthy. But a mistake at work gets him suspended so he decides to move his work to Mumbai where there are people who need a guy like him.

The story has complex characters that make this web series more enjoyable to watch. On top of that, all the rich bastards show in the show are somewhat inspired by real-life people.

10. Bose: Dead or Alive

  • Logline: An After Death mystery of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
  • Year: 2017
  • Genre: Historical Period Drama
  • Cast:  Rajkummar Rao, Naveen Kasturia, Edward Sonnenblick

Based on Anuj Dhar’s 2012 book India’s Biggest Cover-up, Bose Dead or Alive is a mini web series depicting the historical chronicles of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, his distinctive ideology of freedom and the controversies related to his death.

Despite his heroic daring and controversial deeds, Indian Cinema hasn’t tapped much into his life. Alt Balaji attempts to highlight his adventures and how he disappeared from history.

As an Indian, I feel that it is important that we all should know what happened to Netaji. I am not saying that the answers given in this series are correct but at least this series is making people curious about our history and freedom struggle. Highly recommended.

11. Class of 2020

  • Logline: A group of teenage friends exploring the fun and struggles of entering adulthood.
  • Year: 2020
  • Genre: Comedy, Drama
  • Cast: Rohan Mehra, Chetna Pandey, Sushant Tanwar

After two years Alt Balaji released the sequel of ‘Class of 2017’ with a look-alike plot starring some recognizable faces from the Indian entertainment industry like Rohan Mehra and Chetna Pande.

The web series revolves around a bunch of schoolmates from De Nobel High School. Enjoying the last few years of their school life they had to deal with teenage problems, confusion in relationships, lustful desires, and drugs.

I have included ‘class of 2020’ in the list but not its prequel because they don’t share any storyline and this part’s better than the first.

12. Ragini MMS Returns

  • Logline: A story about a college-going girl, Ragini, her friends and a ghost who threatens to kill her victims if they get laid.
  • Year: 2017
  • Genre: Adult, Horror
  • Cast: Riya Sen, Nishant Malkani, Karishma Sharma

In just 3 years, Alt Balaji has alone released more adult web series than any other competitor. And it’s fair to say Alt Balaji has mastered the art of turning anything into sexy, even ghost stories.

There’s a ghost in ‘Ragini MMS Returns’ that threatens to kill her victims if they get laid. That’s right, for getting laid. But don’t think a threat from a dead person will stop our heroes from doing stuff. The story is about a college-going girl, Ragini and her friends who are being hunted down by the ghost for the reason I mentioned above.

The writers have openly shown girl locker room talk which seems realistic. The show is flooded with seductive scenes and the moments of horror are OK too.

If you are watching this show for just the hot stuff, then go ahead. But if you are going for horror element, don’t expect to get too many chills. Rather you can see my list on ‘ Best Horror Web Series‘ to choose a better horror story.

13. Fittrat

  • Logline: A story of a girl who wants to rise in the society by marrying a rich guy but life has other plans for her.
  • Year: 2019
  • Genre: Drama, Romance
  • Cast:  Jan Kamar, Krystle D’Souza, Aditya Seal

There’s a term in Urban English called ‘Gold Digger‘ which means- a person (mainly referred to a woman) who gets into a relationship with others for the money and fame. ‘Fittrat’ is a story of a woman who blatantly accepts that she is a Gold Digger and can do anything to fulfil her ambitions.

Tarini is a small-town girl with big dreams. She aims to get rich and famous and to achieve that she has a plan. She wants to find a very rich guy and marry him. But on her hunt to find ‘Honey with money‘, she gets into a tricky love situation with her best friend’s fiancée. With both love and friendship gone, she decides to strive for her dreams with her hard work.

The story is simple yet has a lot to offer to its audiences. Tarini is not a perfect character, she has her flaws but it makes the show even better to watch. The story has a great message that ‘one should work for their goals and not look for shortcuts’.

14. Virgin Bhaskar

  • Logline:  Bhaskar is an adult novelist in his mid 20’s who is struggling to find a partner and get laid.
  • Year: 2019
  • Genre: Erotic, Comedy
  • Cast:  Anant Joshi, Rutpanna Aishwarya, Dherendra Kumar Tiwari

In a chain of releasing back to back adult web series, ALT Balaji has gone a step ahead to combine an erotic story of a sexually repressed protagonist with some family entertainment and social messages.

The story revolves around Bhaskar, a 26-year-old guy who has serious talent when it comes to writing adult novels but the irony is that he is a virgin with tonnes of fantasies. It is a hilarious adult comedy with spices of love and conflicts.

I found the story losing its nerve towards the second half but the depiction of unfulfilled sexual desires of the protagonist and how he struggles to hide his notorious side from his girlfriend kept me hooked till the end.

15. The Test Case

  • Logline: Journey of a brave woman in a pursuit to break the stereotypes and become the First Female Combat Officer in a male-dominated field.
  • Year: 2017
  • Genre: Action, Drama
  • Cast: Nimrit Kaur, Akshay Oberoi, Atul Kulkarni

In a time where we are being served with stupid content in the name of feminism, this Alt Balaji web series is a blessing. The show encourages women to follow their passion even if you’re all alone and everyone is against you.

Captain Shikha Sharma is a highly ambitious and patriotic woman. She is passionate about her duty towards the nation as a soldier. She is the first women to get enrolled in training for special forces thus being “The Test Case”.

Instead of making it a dreamy inspirational story of a woman chasing success in the male-dominated world, the creators have kept the story real while practically describing the hardships a woman is likely to face on the training grounds.

16. Mentalhood

  • Logline: Six different mothers discussing similar parenting problems.
  • Year: 2020
  • Genre: Slice of Life
  • Cast: Karisma Kapoor, Sandhya Mridul, Tillotama Shome, Sanjay Suri

This latest web series from ALt Balaji marks the debut of Karishma Kapoor in digital series. The series stars some popular names from the Industry like Sanjay Suri and Sandhya Mridul.

Mentalhood casts Karishma Kapoor as Meira Sharma, former Miss Kanpur who had to give up on her modeling career to bring up her Kids. After moving to Mumbai, Meira gets associated with other mothers of her age who discuss the idea of parenting, its challenges, and solutions.

A light-hearted Indian Drama inclined towards the methods of parenting. One of the few clean Alt Balaji Series that you can watch with your parents or children.

17. Dev DD

  • Logline: A tale of young daring and progressive women chasing freedom and wilderness while facing harsh realities of conservative Indian society.
  • Year: 2017
  • Genre: Drama
  • Cast: Asheema Vardaan, Rashmi Agdekar, Akhil Kapur

When we talk about feminism, we talk about women empowerment, equality and women’s rights. I don’t know when the definition of feminism changed to- ‘a woman that gives zero f*cks’. Nowadays, no matter what series I watch, that’s how feminism is portrayed everywhere.

‘Dev DD’ is the story of Devika who is a rebel and does not bow down to patriarchy. She is quick-witted and she has got that ‘I-do-not-care’ attitude. That all changes when she falls in love with a guy, who she thought is perfect for her. But he won’t marry her because she’s not fit to be a typical Indian wife.

I liked the central idea of the story, showcasing bold woman fighting against stereotypes and the rules and regulations Indian culture put on women.

The show’s got a great story and steamy intimate scenes, perfect for a binge-watch.

18. BOSS: Baap of Special Services

  • Logline: A hotshot undercover detective joins Shimla’s Task Force under strange circumstances to help them in solving crimes.
  • Year: 2019
  • Genre: Action, Thriller
  • Cast:  Karan Singh Grover, Sagarika Ghatge, Ashmita Kaur Bakshi

A somewhat equivalent of ‘Crime Patrol’, the Alt Balaji’s web series features two very famous names from TV entertainment. Karan and Sagarika act as top cops working together to solve crimes in the city of Shimla.

The story revolves around Sudheer Kohli, a conman turned cop who is sent on an undercover mission to Shimla to help the Special Task Force in solving crimes. There he meets ACP Saakshi Ranjan, a righteous cop and together the two of them fights crime in style. The story also has a secret plot (regading Sudheer) which is most interesting to watch.

Don’t expect Sherlock level of crime-solving from this show. The show has its moments of shine, especially the climax which is worth every buck. Watch it if you like good old detective drama.

19. XXX Uncensored

  • Logline: Two strangers on a car journey tell each other quirky sexual fantasy stories to kill time.
  • Year: 2018
  • Genre: Erotic
  • Cast: Rithvik Dhanjani, Kyra Dutt, Aparna Bajpai, Raina Bassnet

XXX Uncensored is ‘Gandi Baat’ without the desi element. The astounding success of Gandi Baat must have enticed Alt Balaji to create a similar kind of show.

With just one little twist to not make it look obvious. The story starts with Mayank who gives a lift to Kyra in his car. The two strangers start telling each other quirky sexual fantasy stories to kill time.

The show ends up with both of them being in bed together for all the obvious reasons.

If you think, I gave away a spoiler in the end, who are we kidding here. Can you expect anything other than that to happen?

20. F…U OK?

  • Logline: The comic misadventures of 4 just-out-of-college friends as they start all-night contraceptive delivery service.
  • Year: 2019
  • Genre: Drama
  • Cast:  Devansh Doshi, Mehak Mehra, Kokila Mohini Beri

We all in our lives once thought of a crazy business idea, and I would love to hear yours in the comment section

So moving on to the series, it is the story of four friends who are just out of college and worried about their future. In the midst of all the worrying and thinking, one of them comes up with the idea of starting am all-night contraceptive delivery service and they decide to go ahead with it.

Thus, they embark upon the journey of creating a business and deals with all the problems that come along the way.

It is a funny sweet story of friendship that always brings a smile to one’s face.

I am fully aware that I have not included many shows on this list and I might have skipped your favorite. This list of Best Alt Balaji Shows gets updated frequently. If you have any suggestions then write them down in the comments below. If you liked the post, please do share it with your friends.
