On this site, we heavily focus on the new developments happening in the OTT platforms in Indian and abroad. But for a change in this post, we’ll discuss Indian TV serials.

Indian entertainment before the digital entertainment revolution was mainly divided into two parts, movies, and TV serials. They still hold the majority of viewership at present. Indian people especially women love to watch TV series aired by big channels such as Zee, Star, Sony, etc.

Over the years, hundreds of Indian TV serials have been made, both good and bad. So in this post, I’ll be sharing with you a list of 50 Best TV Serials ever made in Hindi.

6. Ssshhhh…Koi Hai

Byomkesh Bakshi is a very well known detective working in Kolkata. He along with his sidekick Ajit Kumar Banerji investigates spine chilling criminal cases. This show came at a time when people in Indian were not getting anything close to detective drama and thus it became a massive hit.

A series based on an American Action-Thriller series of the same name. 24 is a story revolving around an anti-terrorist squad officer Jai Singh Rathod who is tasked to foil a terrorist attack plan in just 24 hours and save the country. 10. Param Vir Chakra

Param Vir Chakra is the highest gallantry award given to the soldiers for their exemplary bravery shown on the battlefield. 11. Captain Vyom

13. Alif Laila

27. Taarak Mehta Ka Ulta Chashma

28. Kumkum Bhagya

It is based on an English novel ‘Sense and Sensibility’ by Jane Austen. The story begins with the mother’s aspiration of her daughters (Pragya and bulbul) to get married. While both the girls have their own dreams and ambitions until Abhi and Purab entered their life and changed the whole scenario. A spin-off series named ‘Kundli Bhagya’ launched in the year 2017. 29. Naagin

This supernatural thriller Indian daily soap traces the life of serpent women fighting evil to save their prime source of energy, The Nagmani. The first season that premiered in 2015 with 62 episodes made the show rank as the highest-rated TV Serial on Indian Television.

30. Mahabharata

A ninety-four episode TV serial based upon the ancient Hindu epic of the same name depicts the conflict between the Pandava and the Kauravas. It is the most popular Mahabharat series ever produced in India and was re telecasted during the 2020 Carona pandemic.

31. Sarabhai vs Sarabhai

Only a few Indian Comedy Sitcom TV serials have been able to mark their presence among the millennials and Sarabhai VS Sarabhai is one of them. The show revolves around the life of high-class Gujarati family and their day to day accounts. The second season will not be aired soon not as a TV serial but a web series.

32. Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!

Inspired by the 1994 Hindi show ‘Shrimaan Shrimati’ this show narrates the story of two neighbors (the Tiwari’s and the Mishra’s) who constantly try to impress each other’s wives.

In November 2016 the show was even broadcasted on Saturday as ‘ Bhabhi Ji Ghar par hai sanivaar special’ in which celebrities come to the sets. There is also a spin-off series of this show named ‘Happu ki Ultan Paltan’ which is based on the character ‘Darogha Happu Singh’ which revolves around his wife and nine children. 

33. Yeh Hai Mohabbatein

This TV series narrates the story of Tamil dentist Dr. Ishita Iyer and Punjabi CEO Raman Bhalla who lives in Delhi in the same building.

Initially both the families used to hate each other due to regional differences but Raman’s daughter ‘Ruhi’ who got emotionally attached to Ishita and started calling her ‘Ishima ‘ because of which Raman comes close to Ishita, marry and finally fall in love with each other and face all the obstacles that come their way.

In December 2019 a spin-off series titled ‘Yeh hai Chahatein’ launched starring Sargun Kaur Luthra and Abrar Qazi.

34. CID

35. Crime Patrol

Crime Patrol as the name suggests is a Crime series that brings out the real-life crime stories from various parts of India. The serial describes a crime scene from an investigation point of view. The narrators appear at the same screen frame with other show elements narrating different parts of the scandal.

36. Balika Vadhu

37. Diya Aur Baati Hum

A Historical Tv Serial aired on Zee tv in the year 2013. Based on the true story of a Hindu Princess Jodha and the famous Mughal emperor Jalaluddin Mohamad also famous as Akbar. The Hindu princess was married to the Mughal due to political reasons despite the hatred between the two religions. But the hatred between the two did not last for long and later on became an unforgettable tale of true love that changed the fate of the nation. The series was applauded for the costumes, jewelry, and historical sets.

A mythological drama based on the epic of Hindu Lord Rama. First aired in 1987 the show holds the record for most-viewed mythological drama in the world. This TV series got more popular when it was retelecasted on DD National after PM Narendra Modi announced lockdown due to the 2020 Carona Pandemic.

41. Malgudi Days

Based on the works of cartoonist/writer RK Narayan, Malgudi Days features the life of Swami and his friends living in a fictitious town of Malgudi. The famous childhood tale was shoot in the Agumbe, Shimoga district Karnataka. The sketches in the series were the creation of famous cartoonist, R.K Laxman.

42. Kasauti Zindagi Ki

An Indian romantic television serial produced by Ekta Kapoor which is a reboot of Kasauli Zindagi ki (2001)series. This series revolves around the two eternal lovers Prerna and Anurag who fall in love and face the wrath of destiny.

The story starts from the two Bengali families (The Basu’s and The Sharma’s) from Kolkata who were family friends and is hoping to see their children marry in the future. Both have their own plans but it is truly said that it is sometimes better to abandon oneself to destiny.

43. Sath Nibhana Sathiya

This Indian drama television series revolves around the Gujarati family’s morals and values. The series narrates the story of two cousin sisters Gopi and Rashi who both got married in the same house (The Modi’s) irrespective of their differences. Gopi married to the elder son Ahem Modi who is a serious and a hard-working CEO of Modi Corporation Ltd and already had a girlfriend named Anita Mehta but he chose her mother’s wish over his while Rashi got married to the younger one Giger Modi (through deception) who is a fun-loving and kind-hearted paternal cousin of Ahem.

44. Yeh Rishta kya Kehlata hai

It is an Indian television Tv Serial that airs on star plus and streams on Hotstar. It premiered in 2009 and is the fourth longest-running daily soap on Indian TV.

The story starts from the arrange marriage of Naitik and Akshara who both are from Udaipur based, large joint Malwari families. After marriage, they started to understand each other and gradually fall in love with each other and soon they gave birth to a son ‘Nakash’ and after four years they gave birth to a girl ‘Naira’ some years later, Akshaa got killed in a car accident and died and the show is still running and revolves around love story Naira and her beloved Kartik.

A spin-off series is also launched titled ‘yeh riste hai pyaar ke’ in 2019  starring Rhea Sharma and Shaheer Sheikh.

45. Office-Office

The TV serial follows the struggle of a common man, Mussadila in getting his work done in the corrupt government offices of India. At first glance, it may look to be a remake of the UK or American version of The Office TV series but other than the title there is no similarity in the story or characterization.

46. Kundli Bhagya

 It is the spin-off of hit tv serial Kumkum Bhagya. As it is a related show of kumkum Bhhgya, its story is based on the two lost sisters( Preeta and Srishti) of Pragya (from Kumkum Bhagya) and their attempts to reconcile with their mother Sarla Arora.

48. Shriman Shrimati

The story puts in light a three generation joint family of misfits making a laugh riot out of cousin rivalry, family business and other day to day house chores. The show was distinguished by the its fast speaking characters that made the TV serials sound more comical.
